The December arrest of high-rolling Fort Lauderdale lawyer Scott Rothstein, and the collapse of his financial empire and law firm, stunned the charities and politicians who benefited from his largesse.
The man who once courted governors and presidential candidates is now in a federal lockup awaiting trial on fraud charges. Prosecutors said he operated a $1.2 billion Ponzi scheme since 2005.
